Coffee 101 Decaf. French Roast
The "MC" or methylene chloride decaf process used, though not mentioned, has the dubious distinction of being the only decaf process which uses a carcinogenic chemical. Although it's pervasive and deemed safe by the FDA, it was disappointing to learn it was used to decaffeinate this coffee. Upon opening the bag the rich aroma was immediately impressive. Upon brewing the taste struck me as odd, furthering my discomfort. I decided to toss it. The Swiss Water and CO2 processes are my preferred methods of decaffeination, and are without health concerns, although the latte of them is too expensive for a small producer. Going forward, I'll be more careful with my selections.
